Re: Brainstorm session please
Sun, October 17, 2004 - 8:41 AMAnother potential dimension is syncronous/asyncronous. Public authoring systems tend to pull together groups across time if they shared a physical location, where as other types of groups (say a protest flashmob) are very sensitive to getting people in the same place at the same time. -

Re: Brainstorm session please
Sun, October 17, 2004 - 11:06 AMI was going to say the same thing! Ack :)
Mike is right. For example, our own dialogue here is asynchronous. You may be just as likely to interact with the community based on what they left behind - or what you're expected to leave behind - as in direct RT interaction.
I worked on a project a few years ago called HaikuHaiku that was a prototype for a public authoring system where users created location-specific content.... there are quite a few similar projects going on out there - i would love to discuss in more detail! (have thought about writing a comparative paper on geo-contextual authoring systems). -

Re: Brainstorm session please
Wed, November 10, 2004 - 5:00 PMinterest points! the point being made is that you can be in the same space, but at different times. I'm trying to figure out of 'coallesced' implies both same place and same time. Collocated directly indicates same space, but also implies same time. is there a terminology the geocaching community or location-based tagging folks use to describe common locations being used across time? -

Re: Brainstorm session please
Sun, November 14, 2004 - 11:24 AMI've heard the location-based tagging pattern called "public authoring" a number of times:

Not sure if there's an alternate term for geocaching however... that one is pretty much always geocaching with the group that I talk to. -

Re: Brainstorm session please
Sun, November 14, 2004 - 1:22 PMi worked on a prototype system like this called haikuhaiku a few years ago, we created an authoring/indexing system for location-based haikus accessible through mobile phones and wireless palms.
there are a variety of implementations of these types of systems - i like to think of them as 'digital graffiti'. i'll see if i can find a url for our project if the app is still running. i would be happy to discuss with you guys, i used to look at this *a lot* :)
