A link for you: www.turismovenezia.it/eng/dynalay.asp
It is about a simple device playing audio track with stories. The stories are choosen by being linked to GPS coordinates.
I can't wait untill phones could do that. I've heard the thing is delaying GPS in phones is the power consumption by GPS.

Mon, December 13, 2004 - 8:20 AMhi Zbig, try this 'Cell Phones Work as Tour Guides'

I reckon that Italy guide is pure marketing hype. Can you imagine a system trying to guess what you want to hear purely based on location? Not to mention that it's probably heavy, and if it truly automatically selects everything, it would be really annoying when you wanted to pause it to talk to your travelling partner or a real tour guide!

Fri, May 13, 2005 - 10:49 PMI don't think it's a power thing, I think it is switching on the services in the network and possibly lookingt at a way to generate income from it.
I've been talking to our local telco's and it looks like we will have GPS assist using the mobile GPS chipsets in phones before the end of the year.
